Every sheriff prisoner booking and release is processed at 705 Hanover Street, even when the person was housed at Resolutions Jail or Court Street Jail. A person may leave after bond, completion of a local sentence, a dismissal-related order, or another lawful discharge. Staff must still finish the administrative process and resolve all holds before physical departure.

Another outcome is transfer. The person may go to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, another county jail, a federal holding site, or immigration custody. The release record should be read with its disposition and receiving-agency fields. “Released from Butler custody” does not always mean free in the community. The associated court docket supplies the legal order, while the receiving locator shows whether custody continued.

Compare its date, time, disposition, holds, and destination with the right Butler court docket. Ohio VINE may report a custody event, but the Ohio Attorney General warns users not to rely on VINE alone. If a transfer appears, continue with the receiving system.

Published pickup hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Those hours differ from the public lobby, which the sheriff lists as open around the clock.

Ask for a defined person and custody period. Useful fields include the booking number, admission date and time, arresting or committing authority, public charges and holds, release date and time, release or transfer disposition, and destination agency when public. Request the agency meaning of any code. Ohio public-record law calls for prompt inspection and copies within a reasonable period, but it does not create one fixed response deadline for every request.

BCSO also reported 7,427 bookings and 6,992 releases during 2022. Those are transactions, not necessarily unique people. They should not be used as a current count or a forecast of daily release volume.

Contract Custody Transfer Risk

The contract population creates a distinctive Butler County release problem. BCSO transports prisoners among federal courts in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus, other jails and prisons, federal holding facilities, and departure flights. A name may disappear from the county roster because a federal or immigration agency took the person, not because the person entered the community. This interagency movement is especially important for a USMS pretrial prisoner who may never appear in the BOP locator.

Choose the next system from the record. ODRC Offender Search applies after admission to Ohio prison custody. USMS has no public person locator, so a federal docket or a focused records request may be required. None of these systems should be used merely because the person once stayed at Hanover Street.

Corrections Center Property Release

The sheriff's jail-services information documents a second set of release traces. Property is inventoried at admission. At release, the person signs for returned property on the Property Received Report. An account balance is refunded by debit card or check. These transactions can support that processing occurred, but they do not replace the release date and disposition.

A check may be mailed to the address on the release form. The recipient may instead pick it up the next day from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at 705 Hanover Street with government identification. The sheriff does not publish a fixed daily release time, family waiting zone, or jail-provided transportation. Call before traveling and ask for current lobby direction. A lobby that remains open all day does not mean records staff are present all day, and a court order does not guarantee immediate exit while other holds remain.

Three sources should agree before a firm statement is made. The jail record confirms the administrative end of the Butler custody episode. The court docket identifies a bond, sentence, dismissal, commitment, or other legal action. A receiving record identifies continued custody after transfer. Each answers a different question.

A booking photo proves an image was tied to a custody event. It does not establish release. Likewise, a court bond entry proves authorization, not the exact moment the person left. Request the release code and its definition instead of translating an abbreviation by intuition.
